People Will Talk

There are many features that make People Will Talk worth discussing with medical students. The medical paternalism (evident in the variety of ways Praetorius deceives patients) reveals a type of medical practice that most students will find morally troublesome; these acts of paternalism are presented in the film as simply an aspect of Praetorius's humanity. . Praetorius also transgresses many standard moral beliefs concerning the dating of patients and physicians as well as that of students and professors, but it is difficult to determine how the filmmakers wish their audience to judge these events. An important aspect of this film i

Nick Bradbury: One way or another, people will talk to you

Link Dump: August 24, 2005 Main Kudos to TypePad One way or another, people will talk to you . Although I use - and love - the iTunes/iPod combination, it bothers me how Apple continues to be opaque. At a time when a number of companies (including Microsoft, but not, I should add, Google) have made themselves more transparent by opening themselves up via blogging, Apple keeps everything close to their chest. . That's their decision, of course, but it ignores the fact that customers will find ways to talk to you. For example, take a look at this screenshot from iTunes which shows how people are creating iMixes for the sole purpose of let

So, I recorded it with my DVR a while back and took some time to watch it yesterday. . Maybe it is just me, but I get some kind of thrill out of watching old movies deal with taboo subjects, like an unwanted pregnancy. If you are like me, you too will enjoy People Will Talk and how it handles some sticky subject matter. People Will Talk follows Dr. Noah Praetorius (played by Carey Grant) as a mysterious past catches up with him, threatening to possibly ruin his medical career.
PEOPLE WILL TALK may be my favorite film, if you can have such a thing. Loosely based on a German play, Doctor Praetorious, it tells of a Doctor with a unique philosophy. It was quite a step into some sort of cinematic adulthood when a young student who has found herself pregnant from an illicit romance becomes the sympathetic heroine of the movie, finding love with a charismatic doctor. Some have said this movie was a comment on the McCarthy era, of personal investigations used by jealous men to destroy charismatic figures, and I thought of this movie quite a lot during the Clinton Impeachment proceedings.
